the M-word
So, I was talking to one of my male friends about life and I brought up the M-word. Yes, you called it Marriage! He was so shocked as if I was talking about starting a war. We were talking about relationships and this and that and he asked 'Why are you talking about marriage?'. I had to think this one through because you know how boys are about committment (so I've heard) and I just said eventually I wanna get married some day, but not now! Of course I'm thinking about it. I prolly think about it everyday. Am I desparate? NO! Am I trying to get married soon? NO! But my reason for dating is to see if I will potentially marry that person. If I'm in a commited relationship, then I'm in it because I enjoy that person and can see myself being with him for a while, not just to have fun! If I really wanted to just have FUN, then I wouldn't be in a relationship. So, for allllll the men out there, if a young lady brings up marrige, she is not trying to marry you anytime soon. But in the back of her mind she's wondering if your the one...
Cell Cycle
Okay, so as a second semester freshmen my english professor gave us assignment asking us to write a 2-page paper on celebrities. And my was called the Cell Cycle. I wanted to prove that most celebrities live through the same cycle: stardom, the reinvention and the END! Of course each cycle is different, but none the less the END is longer than the Fame! Here's a Peak!
“The Cell Cycle”
There are countless magazine articles and steps to help us to live more like celebrities. These steps range from how to wear our hair to what kind of car to drive. So what is the scientific equation to becoming a celebrity? What are the requirements? In other words, what does a celebrity have that I don’t have? Celebrities can often be classified into categories, and sometimes they fit into more than one grouping. Celebrities rise to fame because they have money, beauty, connections, and talent in movies, art, sports, music, etc. and they fall because they fail to reinvent themselves or fall from the public spotlight. The difference between celebrities and us is that they go through a Celebrity Cycle or as I like to say the “Cell Cycle”, in which celebrities go through three stages in their lifetime: their stardom, their reinvention, and the end.
In order for one of us to become a celebrity, it is necessary that we do something to catch the attention of many people; you have to be noted for something. As mentioned earlier, some of the categories are money, success in entertainment, athletics, sports or sheer beauty. Alicia Keys seized the attention of the media because of her remarkable voice and beauty. Similarly, Anna Nicole Smith was noted for her beauty but became a celebrity because of her controversial marriages to a much older and considerably rich man. Donald Trump and Bill Gates are both notable celebrities for owning billion dollar businesses and making billions of dollars yearly. Tyra Banks became a celebrity after becoming successful runway model at a young age. William Hung became a celebrity after singing on American Idol. After reaching the celebrity status, we look at them as gods out of a heaven and it is mandatory that they be worshiped. Look at any music and movie award show. Thousands of people tune in either before or after (not during) to see what the gods is wearing. In addition, the media even gives us inauthentic brands to look and feel like a star without paying the celebrity prices. Many people would like to become celebrities because some of the benefits are money, attention, cars and clothes. I will admit I would become a celebrity for the free clothes, car, and all of the luxuries that comes along with it. So to become a celebrity can be effortless, in the case of Hung, but sooner or later energy has to put into the “Cell cycle” to stay alive.
In order for celebrities to maintain their celebrity status, he or she has to keep the attention of the public. In this day and age, many celebrities become Jack or Jill of all trades. For example, Paris Hilton had her own television show, music album, perfumes, and has appeared in a few films. Britney Spears remains in the media because of her persistent family difficulties and her wild partying. In the past few years, she has frequented a number of magazines and has appeared on television shows that have shown her in pictures without underwear, driving reckless with and without her children in the car, her bitter divorce from Kevin Featherline, and her court appearances. If one does not keep the attention of the media, he or she will “fall off the map.” In the case of Spears, she has not made music worthwhile or movies to catch the attention of the public. Consequently, she makes her personal life fun for the public to watch. An example of a person who was unable to stay in the limelight is Lou Vega. Vega had a hit song entitled “Mambo Number Five”. His song was a hit but he was not able to make any other songs that could remotely match the popularity of this and thus he plummeted into the category of one-hit-wonders. This is when the celebrity has fifteen minutes of fame and then they go back to being one of us. The failure of reinventing the celebrity self leads to the next stage; END.
The last stage of the cycle is when everything comes to an end and the cell dies. An example of this is Craig David, he was a great music artist and I listened to his songs almost everyday. After his second album, he was no longer in the public’s eye. He just fell off the map, since he could not earn the attention from an audience. Mr. David’s music was not popular enough, and there are no obvious signs where he tried to make a clothing line or appear in any movies to receive publicity. In 2002, his first album, “Born To Do It” was on the BillBoard 200 for fifty-one weeks and his peak position was eleven. In 2003, his second album, “Slicker Than Your Average” lasted on the charts for fourteen weeks and his peak position was thirty-two. Another cause of cell death is the actually death of the celebrity, just in the case of Frank Sinatra, Anna Nicole Smith and most recently Heath Ledger. Each one of these celebrity’s lives were heavily followed by the media. Sinatra was still performing his music, Smith had a new child, and Ledger just finished the sequel to Batman Begins, called The Dark Knight. If they had not died, I am sure that their celebrity life would have still continued.
When I was younger, I longed to become a celebrity. I wanted to have the latest fashions and be chauffeured around all day. I wanted to live in a huge house and never worry about finances. After being further exposed to the media, I revised my goals a little. Yes, I would love to have the voice of Alicia Keys and the body of Jennifer Lopez, but I would not want their lives. I will buy the fashion magazines and read the articles so I can achieve the celebrity look, without their drama filled lives and being followed around. It is true that not all celebrities have drama; some lead lives without the gossip and rumors. Miley Cyrus, a new rising star, says she is making a constant effort to stay out of the rumor mill. Celebrities are seen as larger than life figures, with their perfect families and loads of money supporting their every wish. In addition, every celebrity should be worshiped for their talents or simply because he or she is a celebrity. So, all in all, celebrities are like us when they enter the celebrity cycle, but after they exit they will never be the same. There are a few celebrities who I admire. But right now, I love Kimora Lee Simmons. I was watching her reality show, “Kimora Lee Simmons: Life in the Fab Lane” over the weekend and I feel in love. Simmons has two cute girls, a multi-million dollar home, a fashion line, and make up line. In this episode, Simmons gave the hard task for a realtor to find her a home in Los Angeles in three days and a person on her staff to baby-sit her two overindulged girls for the day. And by the end of the show, she got what she wanted a beautiful home and her babies taken care of. After the show, I said to myself I have to wear Baby Phat, Goddess perfume more often and dress more fabulous. Now I just made a equation for myself to be more like a celebrity by using her products and dressing similar to her; perfume + nice clothes= Simmons. Now I know I will never become a celebrity like her by having people taking my pictures at the events I attend, but at least to me I will feel more like a celebrity.
Every celebrity goes through the three stages in the cell cycle even if they like it or not. If one of us wanted to become a celebrity, then he or she has to follow the cycle. He or she would need to grab the attention of enough people, keep the attention and allow the fans to grow. However, celebrities are not immune from death and therefore the celebrity status dies. I have to admit that not all celebrities completely end their status. Princess Diana Spencer died in 1997 and she is still in the media over her controversial death and life beforehand. And now that we know the cycle of celebrities, where do we go from here? Do we continue to submerse ourselves in the media and purchase the latest fashions magazines and gossip columns? Or should we try to jump in the revolving door of the cycle? Well for me, I will continue to watch Access Hollywood and use my Baby Phat Goddess perfume in my quest to be more like Simmons, fabulous. And I will continue to watch celebrities rise to fame and fall from it.

TheJuice
In the beginning, there was a girl who wanted to be successful, but getting to that destination was challenging. She was the 'Jane' of Trades, but Mastered none of them. Almost everything caught her eye and wanted to become a part of it. So, of course Blogging was the next step in her life. Hopefully, TheJuice will make her Famous...
Well, not exactly...I'm Meredith and I'm as you can see I'm starting a blog! Why? Well, why not?!? My goal is not become famous by doing this, but hopefully blogging will be a way for me to express myself creavite way (unlike my college classes). But my career goal is to become a FashionConsultant and own my own business. I'm not exactly on the right path to my goal, but I"mm working on that. I currently am enrolled as a full time student majoring in Speech Pathology, Deaf Studies, and a minor in Business Administration. Hopefully, after graduating with my degrees I will attend Cosmetology School and earn my license. And everything after that is a mystery...
In the meanwhile, take this journey with me as a student to a FashionConsultant and business owner.
